Natalia Lafourcade is passionate about supporting humanitarian projects. In 2017 she formed Un canto por México, a framework that allows her to bring people and organizations together to join forces for different social and cultural causes. Currently Un canto por México is focused on the Center of Documentation of Son Jarocho, an organization in the Mexican town of Jáltipan, Veracruz, that works to unite contemporary indigenous musicians and diverse artists in the recovery, preservation, study and teaching of a powerful cultural expression of Mexico: Son Jarocho.

In September of 2017, earthquakes hit the region hard and gravely affected the Center, causing cracks in the main structure of the building and condemning it to demolition. To support the reestablishment of this important cultural hub, Natalia Lafourcade is using the framework of Un Canto por México to form a solid team of collaborators with Pienza Sonstenible AC, Taller ADG, Fideicomiso Fuerza México and Fundación Nido Social for the reconstructions of its spaces.

The project is on course to be completed this 2021, and has been made possible by the following: the donation of all proceeds from benefit concerts in Anaheim California and the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City in November 2019; the participation of an incredible array of artists such as Los Cojolites, Aída Cuevas, Pepe Aguilar, Café Tacvba, Carlos Rivera, Mon Laferte,  Panteón Rococó, Jorge Drexler y Ángela Aguilar among others; the generosity of major donors such as Sony Music Entertainment México, Citibanamex, Novaceramic, The Home Depot, Rotoplas, Collado Acero, Fundación Alfredo Harp Helú, Piaget y ReConstruir México; and the launch of 2 music albums.
